In a standard electrical circuit, the earth (ground) wire is your primary defense against electrocution. Its job is to provide a low-resistance path for "fault current" to escape safely to the ground if an appliance fails. The general engineering principle — applied in protective-conductor sizing standards worldwide, and carried through into IEC 61534, the international standard for power track systems — is straightforward: the earth path has to be sized for the system's full rated current, not a fraction of it. A track rated at 32A needs an earth path that can actually carry 32A of fault current, not just the day-to-day load.
